Cosplay.ph note: The anniversary party was held at LazerXtreme, Market! Market! Mall on May 16, 2009. The event was held to coincide with LazerXtreme’s anniversary as well and featured a tournament and hobby event. Thank you so much to LazerXtreme for the support!
Before anything else, congratulations to Filcosplay! It’s been five years already! Wow!
Cosplay!
For this event, I brought my Tommy Gun even though the paint was not completely dry, since this was the perfect time for the “Cosplay Mafia” photoshoot. I went to LaserXtreme in the Market! Market! mall early in the morning, and there, I met my usual fellows and some new and old peeps.
There to greet us were the Reception and Food committees. After the usual greetings with each other, Robert Wong, better known as Eva_guy01 and FC’s head honcho, started the party, to the applause of everyone inside. Then we started eating, with every FC member who came to the party bringing food to share.
Party-goers get to leave their mark on the wall.
There was a mini-cosplay event, hosted by LaserXtreme, for the mall. I got dressed for my costume which was Sarge from the movie “Doom”. Unfortunately my costume was doomed from the start. My friend did not return my gun holster that I needed so I had to improvise. And then, I discovered that my jacket’s zipper was busted. So, what the heck, the Doom costume was a big FAIL. Pablo “Kero” Bairan still invited me to join the parade with Katsune, Kawaiimace, FJ, RB, and the Doctor Vader. We had the parade around the mall and an impromptu interview at the activity center area.
War!
After returning to the venue on the 4th floor of Market! Market!, we had the LaserXtreme game. In plain terms, LaserXtreme is a game in which teams of players shoot each other with harmless lasers. Each player wears a vest with light and sound sensors. When hit by the laser, the sensor lights will be off for a while, signaling a “kill.” After a few seconds, the vest will light up again and you can continue shooting at your opponents. Each sensor area on your vest has different scoring marks, with front chestshots scoring the most. In the end, the game scores will be tallied and the team with the highest score wins.
Sounds easy, but it’s difficult. The LaserXtreme arena is a dark, 300-square meter obstacle course, complete with elevated positions, wall covers, small half-walled foxholes and everything you’d expect in a close-quarter battlefield. To be honest, I didn’t know what to expect from the LaserXtreme game. I was experienced in airsoft battles, both in long range and close-quarter battle, but this game was totally different from airsoft in terms of rules and strategy. In LaserXtreme, it doesn’t matter if you got hit as long as you hit more of your opponents. It took a while before I realized that and formulated a good strategy, but it worked at the last minute. Being in a single phalanx position and inflicting cover fire on all sides worked, but I’ve realized during the second game that hiding in a corner and shooting while darting was better.

Anyway, in the first game, I was with Darth_Julzz, Paul_Dragunov, Neonkenji21, and Blessie, as TEAM GAR. They performed well in combat, especially Julzz, who literally dropped to the floor and laid some fire. And then, there was Blessie who calmly walked to the combat zone and fired one-handed at anything that moved. Now that’s one girl who can kick butt! (Cosplay.ph note: Ordinarily, shooting one-handed won’t allow the lasers to work, a safety feature imposed by LaserXtreme. We wonder if Blessie knew something we didn’t.)
